  • Reporter: “Cooper says affordability is on the mind of many voters, and he vowed to continue to help the fight to bring down costs across the state, including health care.”
  • Roy Cooper: “We’re the richest country in the world. We shouldn’t be putting people in a position of making a choice between paying a doctor and putting food on the table. But it is happening every single day in this state and country. We’ve got to do something about it. We’ve got to expand access to health care.”

  • “I’m going to put the people first,” Cooper said. “The people will come before politics. The people will come before party. The people will come before power.
  • “Now is the time to step up if you want to participate in our democracy,” Cooper said. “People have lost trust in the federal government, and I understand.”

  • Former Gov. Roy Cooper campaigned at Little Rock AME Zion Church in uptown Charlotte as part of his “Make Stuff Cost Less” tour Tuesday morning. He focused on the cost of living and said he would work across the aisle to lower costs.
  • “I believe that there will be enough of them for us to pull together to push this president to find an end to the Iran war, which will help us with this $40 trillion federal deficit, and will also help reduce costs to people,” Cooper said.
  • Cooper cautioned against reading too much into the early numbers.
  • “Early vote looks good, yes, but Republicans tend to show up later in the process than on Election Day, so we can take nothing for granted. We need every vote,” Cooper said.

  • Roy Cooper: “When you have a situation where [Whatley] is cheering on the war in Iran, and his oil stock goes up, and people are paying more at the pump. That’s money out of people’s pockets and into his. When utility rates go up, money out of people’s pockets and into his, and he’s not going to change when he gets to United States Senate.”
