RALEIGH — Today, Cooper for North Carolina released a new TV ad, “There’s More” highlighting that Michael Whatley spent his career promoting convicted child sex predator Harvey Lee West and supporting self-proclaimed “black Nazi” Mark Robinson.

“Michael Whatley has always put pedophiles and extremists ahead of working North Carolinians – he was even one of Mark Robinson’s biggest backers, saying we needed more candidates like Mark,” said Cooper for North Carolina campaign manager Jeff Allen. “Roy Cooper is the only candidate in this race who has kept communities safe by prosecuting thousands of violent criminals and child sex predators and keeping them behind bars.”

The ad will run on broadcast television, streaming and digital platforms statewide as part of a seven-figure buy.

Narrator: This is Harvey Lee West, a convicted sex offender. And you already know that Michael Whatley put him in a senior leadership role, even though he knew he’d spent six years in prison for abusing kids.

But there’s more.

Michael Whatley was one of Mark Robinson’s biggest backers. You know – the guy who called himself “a black Nazi.” Whatley even said, “we need more candidates like Mark” Robinson. 

That’s what Michael Whatley believes. He shouldn’t be in the Senate.

Michael Whatley only looks out for himself, his predator and creep friends and his own bank account, even when it hurts working North Carolinians.

Michael Whatley appointed Harvey Lee West, a convicted child sex predator, who served six years in prison and over a decade as a registered sex offender, to a powerful position in the North Carolina Republican Party. 

• When asked why he elevated West, Whatley has continuously “sidestepped” questions or flat-out lied.

Whatley was also one of Mark Robinson’s biggest backers – even Republicans “blame” Whatley for the “rise” of the disgraced former Lt. Governor.

• Whatley called Robinson a “man of the people” and pushed others to emulate him. 
• Whatley said Robinson was the “greatest Lieutenant Governor in the United States.” 
• One of the many creeps Whatley has cozied up to, Robinson has admitted he “peep[ed]” on women in public gym showers and said that abortion happens because women weren’t “responsible enough to keep [their] skirt down.” Robinson also referred to himself as a “perv” and “black Nazi” on a pornography site.
